Overview
- Tochigi Prefectural Police arrested a 30-year-old Turkish demolition worker in the early hours of Sept. 14 on suspicion of unlicensed driving and failing to report an accident.
- The Sept. 13 collision occurred around 7:40–7:45 p.m. on the down line of the Tohoku Expressway in Kanuma, Tochigi Prefecture.
- Police say the stopped vehicle had hit a guardrail and remained in the overtaking lane when it was rear-ended by a car driven by a 36-year-old company employee from Yokohama.
- A 2-year-old boy from the rear vehicle suffered severe head injuries and remains unconscious in critical condition, while his 6-year-old brother and their father were also hospitalized.
- The suspect, detained after leaving the scene, partially denies aspects of the allegations, and officers continue to examine the crash circumstances and sequence of events.
