Turkish Airlines Finalizes Up to 75 Dreamliners, Sets Conditional 737 MAX Commitment

The announcements followed a TrumpErdoğan meeting in Washington.

Overview

  • Turkish Airlines placed a firm order for Boeing 787s comprising 35 787-9s and 15 787-10s with options for 25 more, with deliveries scheduled from 2029 to 2034.
  • Separately, the carrier agreed in principle to acquire up to 150 737 MAX jets (100 firm plus 50 options), contingent on successful engine negotiations with CFM International.
  • Turkish Airlines said it is negotiating with Rolls-Royce and GE Aerospace for engines, spare parts and maintenance services for the new Dreamliners.
  • Boeing stated the Turkish orders would support more than 123,000 U.S. jobs and said the combined 787 and 737 MAX deals would double the airline’s Boeing fleet; financial terms were not disclosed.
  • Norwegian exercised options for 30 additional 737 MAX 8s, lifting its firm backlog to 80 aircraft and revising its final delivery to 2031.
