Turkish Actress Investigated for Role as Kurdish Fighter in French TV Series

In the series, Sözen portrayed a Kurdish fighter wearing the uniform of the YPG, a group Ankara links to the banned PKK, labeled a terrorist organization in Turkey.
The investigation was initiated by the Istanbul prosecutor's office after Sözen returned from abroad and was briefly detained for questioning on February 3, 2025, before being released.
Sözen has defended herself, stating she played the role of a double agent and was unaware of the uniform's implications, emphasizing her love for her country.
This case is part of a broader crackdown in Turkey targeting journalists, artists, and cultural figures under accusations of supporting terrorism.
