Turkey's First Astronaut Arrives at ISS with Axiom-3 Crew

The mission, arranged by Axiom Space and SpaceX, marks a milestone with eight nations now represented on the International Space Station.

  • Four astronauts, including Turkey's first astronaut, Alper Gezeravcı, have arrived at the International Space Station (ISS) for a two-week stay.
  • The mission, known as Ax-3, was arranged by Texas-based startup company Axiom Space and used a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket and Crew Dragon capsule.
  • The crew will conduct more than 30 scientific experiments, many focused on the effects of spaceflight on human health and disease.
  • This mission marks the first time all four seats in the capsule had been purchased by national space agencies rather than wealthy individuals.
  • With the arrival of the Ax-3 crew, a record eight nations are now represented aboard the ISS: The United States, Spain, Russia, Japan, Denmark, Italy, Turkey, and Sweden.
