Overview

  • Under the new directive, all airlines in Turkey must announce that passengers remain seated until the aircraft reaches its parking position.
  • Passengers who unfasten seatbelts, stand, open overhead bins or crowd the aisle while the plane is taxiing face fines of about $70 (£52).
  • Cabin crew are required to report non-compliant travelers to the Turkish Directorate General of Civil Aviation for administrative penalties.
  • Authorities say the measure will reduce safety risks and ensure an orderly deplaning process for millions passing through Turkish airports each year.
  • Regional carriers including Emirates and Qatar Airways are reportedly considering similar policies to manage passenger behaviour and improve disembarkation flow.
