Turkey Detains 304 in Nationwide Anti-ISIL Operation

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announces large-scale operation against suspected ISIL affiliates, with majority of arrests in Ankara, Istanbul, and Izmir.

Turkey's Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced the detention of 304 people suspected of links to the Islamic State (ISIL) in simultaneous operations across 32 provinces.
The majority of the detainees were arrested in Turkey's three largest cities: Ankara, Istanbul, and Izmir.
The detainees' nationalities have not been disclosed.
The operation, codenamed 'Heroes-34', was carried out by the police intelligence and counter-terrorism squads.
Turkey has been a target of deadly ISIL attacks since 2015, including a nightclub shooting in Istanbul on January 1, 2017, that killed 39 people.
