Tupac Murder Trial Set for Former Gang Leader Duane "Keffe D" Davis in June 2024

Davis, who pleaded not guilty and avoided a possible death penalty conviction, remains in jail as his attorneys seek his release on bail; trial will take place nearly 30 years after Tupac's death, with Davis being the only surviving suspect in the case.

  • Duane "Keffe D" Davis, a former street gang leader, will stand trial for the murder of hip-hop icon Tupac Shakur on June 3, 2024, in Las Vegas. This comes nearly 30 years after Shakur's death in a drive-by shooting in 1996.
  • Other suspects in the case, including Davis's nephew Orlando Anderson, the suspected shooter, and two other individuals, Terry Brown and Deandrae Smith, died before they could be charged. Davis is now the only surviving suspect.
  • Davis previously admitted in several interviews and in his memoir, Compton Street Legend, to being present at the crime scene. However, he maintains his innocence in the actual murder.
  • Despite facing the possibility of a death penalty, Davis pleaded not guilty and successfully avoided a potential death sentence. His attorneys are currently seeking his release on bail ahead of the trial.
  • Davis allegedly orchestrated the shooting following a brawl between Shakur and his nephew, which prosecutors argue was part of larger clash between rival East Coast and West Coast groups in the 'gangsta rap' genre.
