TTD to Transform Alipiri Toll Plaza into High-Tech Screening Centre

Drawing on international airport baggage scanning methods, the plan aims to slash pilgrim wait times through expedited security checks.

Overview

  • Executive Officer J. Shyamala Rao directed on June 7 that Alipiri toll plaza be upgraded with advanced scanning technology, CCTV installation and structured queue management.
  • Upgrades are designed to accelerate luggage and vehicle screenings for two-, four- and six-wheelers to reduce congestion for Tirumala pilgrims.
  • Officials will study global airport screening systems to adopt best practices for safe and efficient luggage handling.
  • The Divya Darshan token issuance centre has been moved to the Bhudevi Complex at Alipiri, where about 5,000 tokens are now issued daily, with counters set to shift to Srinivasa Mangapuram pending Archaeology Department approval.
  • TTD’s IT and Vigilance departments have been tasked with developing a real-time luggage tracking system to keep pilgrims informed of their deposited belongings.
