Overview

  • Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) is testing AI and facial recognition technologies to modernize pilgrim services at the Venkateswara temple.
  • Time-slotted darshan tokens will use facial recognition to authenticate pilgrims and prevent duplicate or fraudulent bookings by matching images against a 30-day database of 1 million entries.
  • AI-powered cameras will monitor crowd flow, estimate darshan wait times, and notify pilgrims to help them plan their visits more effectively.
  • The technology will also enhance security by identifying and tracking unauthorized individuals at specific locations within the temple complex.
  • These solutions are currently undergoing proof of concept trials with multiple service providers before full-scale implementation.
