TTD Defends Tirupati Land Swap as YSRCP Alleges Oberoi Favouritism

Temple administrators say the exchange protects sacred terrain by securing land beside the Tirumala hills for devotee facilities.

Overview

  • Government Order G.O.M.S. No. 21 dated August 7 authorises the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Authority to swap 24.68 acres in Peruru for 25 acres of TTD land in Tirupati urban limits.
  • YSRCP leader Bhumana Karunakar Reddy alleges a plan to benefit Oberoi Hotels, valuing the TTD parcel near ₹1,500 crore and claiming a loss exceeding ₹1,000 crore for the trust.
  • TTD rejects the allegations as baseless, citing Board Resolutions No. 102 (November 18, 2024), No. 250 (May 7, 2025) and No. 385 (July 22, 2025) as evidence of a transparent process.
  • TTD says the arrangement shifts southern-side land with existing constructions to the Tourism Department and secures northern-side land adjacent to the hills for devotee-focused use.
  • The TDP says the 2021 Tourism Department allotment of 20 acres at Alipiri to Oberoi’s SPV was cancelled and that an alternate site will be allotted through a swap cleared by the state investment panel on August 22.
