Tsunoda Keeps Monza Point as Stewards Take No Further Action

Audi has filed an intention to appeal the stewards' decision, preserving a 96-hour window to seek a full hearing that could change the race classification.

Overview

  • Tsunoda retained 10th place after a disputed restart at Monza on Sunday when Race Director Rui Marques ordered an extra formation lap because Tsunoda's car was angled on the grid.
  • The FIA stewards reviewed multi-angle video and testimony and ruled the extra formation lap resulted from the Race Director’s assessment rather than being directly caused by Tsunoda, so they issued no penalty.
  • Article B5.9.4 requires any driver who causes an extra formation lap and then starts it to enter the pit lane and resume from there, and failure to do so can be converted into a 30-second post-race time penalty.
  • Audi has formally notified an intention to appeal the no-penalty ruling and has up to 96 hours to decide whether to file a full appeal that, if successful, would likely convert an unserved stop-and-go into a time penalty and promote Gabriel Bortoleto into the points.
  • The stewards noted teams were never told they were being treated as the cause and recommended the FIA consider a process to inform teams so drivers can comply with Article B5.9.4 in future, a change that would reduce operational ambiguity and directly affect driver and team outcomes.
