  • China’s Tsunami Warning Centre issued a yellow alert for Shanghai and Zhoushan and lifted it in the early afternoon after only minor wave activity was observed
  • Typhoon Co-May is forecast to make landfall south of Shanghai around 6 pm local time with heavy rains and gale-force winds that could deliver up to 320 mm of rainfall within 24 hours
  • Authorities activated a top-level flood and typhoon emergency, evacuated nearly 283,000 residents from vulnerable zones, and suspended ferry services, reduced highway speed limits and canceled almost 30 percent of flights
  • Kamchatka region authorities declared a state of emergency and warned of potential aftershocks up to magnitude 7.5 following the undersea quake
