TSMC to Begin Construction on Third U.S. Chip Plant in 2025

The Arizona facility will produce 2nm chips by the end of the decade, as TSMC accelerates U.S. expansion under the CHIPS Act.

TSMC's first U.S. chip plant in Arizona is now operational, producing 5nm chips for older Apple devices like the iPhone 15 and Apple Watch Ultra 2.
Construction of a second Arizona plant is ongoing, with plans to produce 3nm chips by 2028, currently the most advanced node in mass production.
A third Arizona facility, set to begin construction in 2025, will produce 2nm chips before 2030, marking a faster two-year construction timeline.
While U.S. plants aim to strengthen domestic chip production, they will lag behind TSMC's Taiwan facilities in cutting-edge technology due to centralized R&D in Taiwan.
The U.S. expansion is driven by CHIPS Act incentives and geopolitical efforts to reduce reliance on Taiwan for semiconductor manufacturing.
