TSMC Arizona Expands U.S. Chip Production for Apple and AMD
TSMC's Arizona facility now manufactures Apple Watch S9 and AMD Ryzen 9000 chips, marking growth in U.S.-based semiconductor production.
- TSMC's Arizona plant is now producing Apple Watch's S9 chip alongside the A16 Bionic chip for iPhones, both using 4nm technology.
- The facility has also started manufacturing AMD's Ryzen 9000 series processors, further diversifying its output.
- Current production capacity is 10,000 wafers per month, with plans to double to 24,000 wafers by completing Phase 1B later this year despite equipment delays.
- The Arizona fab represents TSMC's first major manufacturing site outside Taiwan, supported by incentives from the CHIPS and Science Act.
- While local hiring has increased, TSMC continues to rely on experienced staff from Taiwan to address staffing challenges at the facility.
