Tse Chi Lop Sentenced to 16 Years in Melbourne Drug Conspiracy Case

An extradition undertaking to Dutch authorities capped the available penalty at 25 years.

Overview

  • The court set a non-parole period of 10 years, with nearly five years already in custody counted as time served.
  • Tse pleaded guilty on 7 November to conspiring to traffic commercial quantities of drugs tied to a 2012–2013 plan to move 20kg of methamphetamine between Sydney and Melbourne.
  • He was arrested at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport in January 2021 and extradited to Australia in December 2022 after contesting the transfer, with much of the case handled in closed hearings.
  • The Australian Federal Police called the outcome the conclusion of Operation Volante, describing it as a 14-year international investigation into the Sam Gor network.
  • The judge said Tse is likely to be deported after serving his sentence.
