Overview

  • RCMP say they were alerted around noon on July 14 to a crash about 1.5 kilometres from Highway 3 near Behchoko where responders administered CPR to the lone pilot, who later died.
  • The aircraft was registered to Yellowknife-based Great Slave Helicopters, which has not responded to media inquiries.
  • N.W.T. Fire confirmed the helicopter was not part of any wildfire response efforts at the time of the accident.
  • On July 15, the Transportation Safety Board of Canada began collecting information and has not yet released any findings on the cause.
  • The crash underscores the Northwest Territories’ reliance on air travel and the logistical challenges that remote terrain poses for pilots and first responders.
