Trump Administration Over Canceled Bargaining Agreement

The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) and other unions filed a lawsuit against the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for unilaterally rescinding a seven-year collective bargaining agreement for TSA officers.
The union claims the cancellation violates the First and Fifth Amendments, as well as the Administrative Procedure Act, and seeks to reinstate the agreement through the lawsuit filed in federal court in Seattle.
DHS justified the termination by alleging the union misused resources and that the agreement hindered TSA's operational efficiency, though the union disputes these claims as baseless.
AFGE alleges the move is retaliatory, citing its history of legal actions against the Trump administration's policies affecting federal workers.
The revoked agreement, signed in 2024, covered approximately 47,000 TSA employees and was intended to last until 2031, with limited midterm renegotiation provisions.
