TSA to Launch $45 ConfirmID Option for Travelers Without REAL ID on Feb. 1

The program shifts identity verification costs to passengers who lack acceptable identification.

Overview

  • Travelers without a REAL ID or other accepted ID can request TSA identity verification for $45 through the new ConfirmID process at security checkpoints.
  • Payment must be made in advance at pay.gov, which accepts ACH, debit or credit cards, PayPal, and Venmo, and immediately issues a receipt that must be shown at the checkpoint.
  • Each purchase is tied to a stated travel start date and remains valid for 10 days, after which a new payment is required for subsequent trips.
  • TSA warns the verification attempt is not guaranteed to succeed and may add up to about 30 minutes due to additional screening and identity checks.
  • Adults must apply individually, fraudulent use can trigger federal penalties, and passengers who refuse ConfirmID without acceptable ID may be denied security access and miss their flights.
