TSA to Charge $45 for ConfirmID for Travelers Without REAL ID Starting Feb. 1

• TSA says the identity-verification process typically takes about 10–15 minutes, and airports are advising passengers to arrive earlier to account for the extra step.
• Paying the fee does not guarantee identity verification or boarding, as TSA may be unable to confirm a traveler’s identity.
• Passengers can avoid the charge by bringing acceptable IDs such as a U.S. passport, passport card, enhanced driver’s license, or permanent resident card, with TSA reporting compliance above 94%.
