TSA Launches Gateside Pilot Letting PreCheck Members Pass Security Without Tickets

The free, centrally run trial lets vetted Known Traveler Number holders reserve one‑day passes at 13 airports to test effects on checkpoint wait times and terminal operations.

Overview

  • The Transportation Security Administration launched Gateside by TSA PreCheck this week, offering approved non‑travelers vetted through PreCheck or other trusted‑traveler programs access past security at 13 U.S. airports.
  • Eligible users must apply online through the TSA portal one to three days before a visit, log in with a Login.gov account, and receive approval before coming to the airport.
  • Approved visitors enter through TSA PreCheck lanes, present an acceptable government ID, and may be asked to show live approval on the TSA dashboard because screenshots and printouts are not accepted.
  • Airports can limit daily guest authorizations or suspend access during busy periods, and TSA will monitor checkpoint queues, lane performance and terminal crowding before deciding whether to expand the pilot.
