TSA Launches Gateside Pilot Letting PreCheck Members Enter Gate Areas

The phased, capacity‑capped trial will test how added non‑ticketed visitors affect checkpoint operations before any wider rollout.

Overview

  • TSA has opened Gateside by TSA PreCheck as a pilot at 13 U.S. airports to let approved non‑travelers pass security and enter secure gate areas for reunions, layover meetups, or dining.
  • The initial airport list includes major hubs such as LAX, DFW, LAS and SAN and smaller airports including Mesa Gateway, Columbus (CMH) and Will Rogers (OKC).
  • Only people with an active Known Traveler Number (for example TSA PreCheck or Global Entry) may apply for a Gateside pass one to three days before a visit through the TSA/Login.gov portal.
  • Approved visitors must present acceptable ID, show live approval on the TSA portal at screening, use PreCheck lanes subject to regular screening rules, and may add children to their reservation; passes do not allow boarding.
  • Participating airports set daily caps and can restrict availability during busy periods as TSA measures effects on queues and crowding before adding more locations.
