Truro City's Carlisle Trip Sets New Mark for English Away-Day Distance

Promotion to the National League has turned Truro City's travel into cross-country treks for players and fans.

Overview

  • The Cornish club undertook a near-900-mile round journey of roughly 14 hours to Carlisle, a trip reported as breaking the previous English away-day record of 832 miles between Newcastle and Plymouth in 2009/10.
  • Two fixtures later this season are set to be even longer, with Gateshead estimated at about 930 miles round trip and Hartlepool about 890 miles.
  • Around 50 Truro supporters were expected at Brunton Park, with no train early enough from Cornwall and travel instead by car or plane.
  • TalkSPORT reports Truro face 21 league round trips longer than eight hours this season, including 12 exceeding ten hours and three surpassing 14 hours.
  • Truro media chief Gareth Davies described the Carlisle visit as a bucket-list "badge of honour" for fans, while Carlisle manager Mark Hughes noted clubs refine logistics for such long hauls.
