Trump’s Approval Slide Hardens in Multi-Poll Run of Sustained Lows

Fresh national surveys show persistent net-negative ratings that have Republicans worrying about the 2026 midterms.

Overview

  • Economist/YouGov’s Nov. 28–Dec. 1 poll registered 38% approval and 57% disapproval, the seventh straight week with net approval at minus 15 points or worse.
  • Polling averages show a clear net negative, with RealClearPolitics at roughly 42% approve and 55% disapprove on Dec. 4 and the New York Times aggregator at about 42% to 55%.
  • Gallup’s November survey found 36% approval, the lowest of Trump’s second term in that series and lower than any other modern president at the same first-year point.
  • Rasmussen’s five-day tracking average shows 44% approve and 55% disapprove (net minus 11), a second-term low in that pollster’s series.
  • Issue and scandal polling reinforce the downturn, including Reuters/Ipsos at 38% overall and just 20% approval of Trump’s handling of the Epstein files, as analysts flag 2026 risks with Democrats leading in generic-ballot measures and voters blaming Republicans for the shutdown.
