Donald Trump signed an executive order for the Freedom 250 race at Washington, DC.

Overview

  • The Freedom 250 Grand Prix is scheduled for Aug. 21–23, 2026, with the championship race on Aug. 23, free to the public and planned for live broadcast on FOX.
  • The executive order directs the Interior and Transportation departments to work with Mayor Muriel Bowser’s office, designate a National Mall course within 14 days, and expedite necessary permits.
  • Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy is authorized to use available funds consistent with law and to coordinate FAA permissions for drones and aerial filming.
  • IndyCar and Roger Penske have endorsed the event, which will be added to the 2026 calendar as a championship points race between Markham, Ontario, and Milwaukee.
  • Unresolved issues include sponsor advertising limits on Capitol grounds, funding sources, and a rapid buildout for course infrastructure and security, with the White House saying it does not expect to seek congressional approval.
