Trump Signs Bipartisan Law Requiring DOJ to Release Epstein Files Within 30 Days

The law sets a 30-day deadline with carve-outs that could limit disclosure.

Overview

  • Attorney General Pam Bondi said the Justice Department will publish non-classified investigative materials within the 30-day window set by the newly signed statute.
  • The measure bars withholding solely for embarrassment or political sensitivity yet permits redactions or temporary retention to protect victim identities, remove explicit abuse imagery, safeguard classified content or avoid compromising active investigations.
  • Congress approved the mandate with overwhelming support, passing 427–1 in the House and by unanimous consent in the Senate, and the law directs the DOJ to post the records online in a searchable, downloadable format.
  • Republican co-sponsor Thomas Massie warned that newly opened probes — including inquiries Bondi says she began at Trump’s direction into Democrats’ ties to Epstein — could be cited to limit releases.
  • Earlier this month the House published more than 20,000 pages, including emails referencing Trump, while prior DOJ/FBI reviews reported no incriminating client list and concluded Epstein’s death was a suicide.
