Trump Sanctions ICC Over Israel and Gaza War Crimes Investigations

President Trump issued an executive order imposing financial and travel sanctions on ICC staff and others assisting its investigations into the United States and Israel.
The sanctions follow ICC arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant over alleged war crimes in Gaza, as well as Hamas leaders for attacks on Israel.
Critics, including European leaders and human rights groups, argue the sanctions undermine international justice and the ICC’s ability to hold war criminals accountable.
The ICC described the sanctions as an attack on its independence and pledged to continue its work, calling for global support from its 125 member states.
This marks the second time Trump has sanctioned the ICC, with similar actions taken during his first term, though they were later rescinded by President Biden.
