Overview
- Democratic lawmakers released thousands of emails attributed to Jeffrey Epstein that include claims Donald Trump “knew about the girls” and spent hours with one, assertions that have not been independently verified.
- Trump denied any knowledge of the alleged conduct and directed Attorney General Pam Bondi and the FBI to investigate Epstein’s ties to Bill Clinton, Larry Summers, Reid Hoffman and JPMorgan Chase.
- Clinton’s spokesperson said the former president did nothing and knew nothing, while Bondi pledged to act diligently even though DOJ and the FBI said in July there was no basis for new probes or full file releases.
- Trump publicly withdrew his support for Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene after she pressed for disclosure of the files, and she accused him of trying to intimidate Republicans ahead of the vote.
- The House is scheduled to consider a bill next week to compel release of the Epstein files, as a viral email referencing “Bubba” sparked speculation that Mark Epstein said did not refer to Bill Clinton.
