President Donald Trump has announced Melinda Hildebrand as his choice for U.S. ambassador to Costa Rica, pending Senate approval.
Hildebrand is a Houston-based philanthropist, business executive, and owner of River Oaks Donuts, a popular local establishment.
She also serves as Vice Chair of the Hildebrand Foundation and Vice President of Hilcorp Ventures Inc., her husband’s oil and gas company.
Melinda and her husband, billionaire Jeff Hildebrand, were significant donors to Trump's 2024 presidential campaign, contributing over $1 million.
If confirmed, Hildebrand will succeed Cynthia A. Telles, who served under President Joe Biden, and Sharon Day, who held the role during Trump’s first term.
