Trump Intensifies Nobel Peace Prize Bid, Calls Possible Rebuff an "Insult" to the U.S.

Polling in Germany and the United States shows broad opposition, with the Nobel Committee set to announce the 2025 laureate on Oct. 10.

Overview

  • Speaking to U.S. military personnel at Quantico, President Donald Trump said denying him the prize would insult the country and repeated his claim of having ended seven wars.
  • He cited conflicts involving India and Pakistan, Egypt and Ethiopia, and Serbia and Kosovo, and suggested the award might instead go to someone he says has "done nothing."
  • A Forsa telephone survey conducted Sept. 25–26 found 96% of Germans say Trump does not deserve the prize, 2% support it, and 2% are undecided among 1,001 respondents.
  • A Washington PostIpsos poll from Sept. 11–15 reported that 76% of Americans would not award him the prize, while 22% say he deserves it.
  • Reporting says countries including Pakistan, Israel, and Cambodia have put forward nominations, while parties in places such as Kosovo, Congo, and Kashmir only weakly corroborate Trump’s peace-making claims.
