Overview
- A formal order dated Nov. 4 extends the D.C. National Guard’s mission through at least Feb. 28 under directions to protect federal property and support law enforcement.
- The task force totals 2,375 troops, including 949 from the D.C. Guard, the largest single contingent, according to figures reported to the Associated Press.
- Contributing forces include units from West Virginia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Ohio, South Carolina, Georgia and Alabama, though the Nov. 4 order does not address other states’ deployments.
- Several states told the AP they plan to end deployments by Nov. 30 unless they receive new orders extending their missions.
- The deployment remains the subject of an ongoing lawsuit by D.C. Attorney General Brian Schwalb, with a hearing on Oct. 24 before U.S. District Judge Jia M. Cobb and no decision yet announced.
