Overview
- The Economist/YouGov survey conducted Sept. 12–15 among 1,567 U.S. adults finds 39% approval and 57% disapproval for President Trump, a net −18 with a margin of error of about 3.6 points.
- The −18 net is the lowest of his second term in this weekly series and the second-worst of either term, trailing only a −21 in November 2017.
- Independents disapprove by 64% to 28%, with additional erosion reported among Hispanic respondents and majorities of most demographic groups registering disapproval.
- Ratings on key issues are negative, including inflation and prices (−34), jobs and the economy (−22), immigration (−8) and crime (−7).
- Republican backing remains strong—about 88% approval, 86% among 2024 Trump voters—yet analysts warn that prolonged sub-majority approval could weigh on GOP prospects for the 2026 midterms.
