Trump Announces Thailand–Cambodia Ceasefire, But No Joint Confirmation

Thailand’s prime minister says no truce is in place.

Overview

  • President Donald Trump said he spoke with Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and that both agreed to "cease all shooting" and return to the earlier peace accord.
  • Anutin told reporters there was no ceasefire and that fighting continued, urging the U.S. to press Cambodia to cease fire, withdraw troops, and remove landmines.
  • Neither Bangkok nor Phnom Penh independently confirmed Trump’s claim, leaving the status of any new agreement unclear.
  • Cambodia’s defense ministry later accused Thailand of carrying out fresh airstrikes, saying Thai aircraft "have not stopped bombing yet."
  • This week’s clashes have killed at least 20 people, wounded about 260, and displaced roughly half a million, after a July truce formalized in October was suspended by Thailand in November over disputed landmine incidents.
