Overview

  • President Trump arrived at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson on August 15 to begin a one-on-one meeting with President Putin followed by delegation talks over a working breakfast and a planned joint press conference.
  • Trump said the talks will include Russia’s demands for Ukrainian territory and suggested Kyiv consider concessions, warning of “very severe consequences” if Putin does not agree to end the war.
  • Two B-2 stealth bombers landed at the base on August 14 under Exercise Northern Edge 2025, an official training event that Western analysts view as a deliberate display of U.S. military resolve.
  • Ukrainian President Zelenskyy and European leaders were not invited to the summit, reviving concerns that any settlement affecting Ukraine could be negotiated without its input.
  • NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe Gen. Alexus Grynkewich is on site to advise U.S. officials as allied governments press Washington to secure Ukraine’s approval for any peace deal.
