Overview

  • OPM Director Scott Kupor confirmed the office will no longer manage or use the “five things” email internally after reviewing its manual and inefficient processing.
  • The program, launched by Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency in February to boost accountability, had already been phased out by many agencies before its formal termination.
  • Elon Musk left his DOGE role in May following a public fallout with President Trump, diminishing support for his cost-cutting workforce initiatives.
  • The weekly requirement prompted legal, privacy and operational concerns as agency leaders issued conflicting guidance on compliance.
  • Federal agencies will transition to conventional performance management systems with regular check-ins to monitor employee productivity.
