Overview
- Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy canceled or terminated $679 million awarded to 12 offshore wind projects, including $427 million for a Humboldt County, California terminal, $47 million for a Baltimore logistics hub, and $48 million for a Staten Island terminal.
- BOEM’s Aug. 22 directive halted all offshore activities on Ørsted and Global Infrastructure Partners’ 704 MW Revolution Wind, which is about 80% complete, after previously finding in 2023 that national-security effects would be negligible.
- ISO New England said it included Revolution Wind in reliability planning and warned that delaying the project increases risks to grid stability as electricity demand grows.
- Connecticut and Rhode Island leaders and members of Congress say they have not been briefed on specifics, are demanding the basis for the decision, and warn of jeopardized jobs, training programs, and increased costs for ratepayers.
- Interior Secretary Doug Burgum attributed the scrutiny to NOAA analyses with Defense Department concerns over radar impacts, and Interior moved in court to remand and vacate approval for a planned Maryland offshore wind facility.
