Truck-Mounted Crane Strikes Nuremberg-Eibach Rail Bridge, Closing Ansbach Line

A structural assessment will determine whether closures must continue for trains or road traffic.

Overview

  • Police say a truck with a trailer and loading crane hit the bridge around 7:20 a.m. on the Frankenschnellweg toward Fürth, damaging the structure and roadside concrete barriers.
  • No injuries were reported, the vehicle was recovered by a salvage service, and road traffic was temporarily routed one lane over the opposite carriageway during the operation.
  • Deutsche Bahn reports major disruption, with the Treuchtlingen route reopened in the afternoon while the line to Ansbach remains closed.
  • Regional services RE16, RE60 and RB16 as well as S‑Bahn S4 are affected, with S4 trains turning back at Nürnberg‑Schweinau.
  • Passengers are advised to check DB’s disruption notices and the DB Navigator app as the extent of the bridge damage is still being evaluated on site.
