Truck Crash and Separate Car-Carrier Fire Disrupt Central Mexico Roads, No Deaths Reported

Authorities are conducting peritaje following emergency closures.

Overview

  • In San Juan del Río, Querétaro, a Torton truck reportedly lost brakes on Avenida México, struck multiple vehicles and utility poles, and caught fire at the México–Durango junction.
  • Firefighters and Protección Civil extinguished the blaze, cut power due to downed CFE and Telmex poles, evacuated nearby homes as a precaution, and kept the avenue closed for risk assessment.
  • El Heraldo de México reported at least six cars, four motorcycles and a public-transport unit were hit, with on-site medical attention provided and no hospital transfers needed, and the driver was taken to authorities.
  • In a separate incident in Lagunillas, Michoacán, the trailer of a car carrier ignited after an apparent mechanical fault on the MoreliaPátzcuaro highway; the driver detached the trailer and no injuries were reported, according to C5 Michoacán.
  • Both fires were contained and cleanup and inspections continue, with viral witness videos intensifying scrutiny of heavy-vehicle maintenance and steep-route risks.
