Troy Lesesne Named New Head Coach of D.C. United
Lesesne, who led the New York Red Bulls to the playoffs as interim coach, replaces Wayne Rooney and is set to debut in the Feb. 24 season opener.
- Troy Lesesne, 40, has been named as the new head coach of D.C. United, signing a three-year deal through the 2026 MLS season.
- Lesesne gained his first MLS head-coaching experience as the interim coach of the New York Red Bulls in May 2023, leading the team to the playoffs.
- He replaces Wayne Rooney, who left D.C. United at the end of the 2023 regular season to coach Birmingham City, but was fired after winning just two of the first 15 matches.
- Lesesne is set to debut with D.C. United in the Feb. 24 MLS season opener against the New England Revolution
- Prior to joining the Red Bulls, Lesesne was the head coach of New Mexico United of the USL Championship from 2018-21.
