Tropical Storm Wutip to Intensify Ahead of June 13 Hainan Landfall, Impacting Guangdong and Vietnam

Overview

  • Wutip will make landfall on Hainan Island on June 13 as it tracks northwest at 10–15 km/h, then is expected to strike the GuangdongGuangxi coast on June 14.
  • Meteorologists forecast the storm will strengthen into a severe tropical storm with winds of 25–30 m/s (90–108 km/h) as it nears the coast.
  • Heavy rainfall of up to 300 mm is predicted in southwestern and eastern Hainan while coastal regions can expect gusts over 100 km/h.
  • The Guangzhou Railway Group has suspended Hainan Ring High-Speed Rail services and key mainland lines as Hong Kong maintains its No 1 typhoon signal.
  • Wutip’s outer rainbands caused floods in central Vietnam on June 11–12, prompting evacuations in Da Nang and disrupting flights at Da Nang International Airport.
