Tropical Storm Priscilla Forms Off Mexico’s Pacific Coast, Coastal Watches Issued

Mexico posts coastal watches following official confirmation of Priscilla’s formation off Jalisco.

Overview

  • SMN and the U.S. National Hurricane Center report Priscilla formed Saturday in the Pacific about 460 km south-southwest of Manzanillo, moving northwest with sustained winds near 75 km/h.
  • A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect from Punta San Telmo, Michoacán, to Cabo Corrientes, Jalisco, with forecast gusts up to 80 km/h and seas of 2.5–3.5 meters along Colima, Jalisco and Michoacán.
  • Bands from the storm are expected to deliver intense rain in Michoacán and Guerrero and very heavy rain in Jalisco and Colima, raising risks of flash flooding, landslides and rapid river rises.
  • Forecast guidance indicates Priscilla could strengthen to a hurricane as it tracks northwest offshore through early next week, with uncertainty on proximity to Baja California Sur later in the period.
  • SMN notes additional low-pressure features are enhancing rainfall in other regions, and Protección Civil urges residents to avoid flooded crossings, heed official updates and prepare emergency kits.
