Overview

• Podul made landfall on Fujian’s coast at about 12:30 a.m. on Aug. 14 as a tropical storm and is moving northwest at 30–35 km/h.
• Hourly rainfall exceeded 70 mm in parts of Guangdong, Hunan and Jiangxi, triggering widespread downpours across the region.
• Hong Kong Observatory raised its highest-level black rainstorm warning, suspending court hearings, outpatient clinics and postal services.
• Officials relocated around 15,000 residents from seaside communities in Fujian, Guangdong and Guangxi as a precaution.
• Flood alarms have been activated in inland Hunan province over concerns of river and lake overflow, with no casualties or major damage reported so far.
