- Norbert formed from Invest 96E and Tropical Depression Fourteen-E and was named Tropical Storm Norbert on Sept. 10, according to National Hurricane Center advisories.

- Forecasters expect some strengthening over the next 48 hours and say Norbert could reach hurricane strength this weekend, though intensity and track forecasts will change with time.
- A separate broad low designated EP97 several hundred miles southwest of Mexico has a high seven-day formation probability and is likely to become a tropical depression that would be named Odalys if it develops.
