Overview

  • Tropical Depression Two is under a tropical storm warning from Boca de Catan to Tecolutla and expected to strengthen into Tropical Storm Barry before making landfall tonight
  • The system will bring sustained winds above 50 mph and rainfall of 3 to 6 inches, with isolated totals up to 10 inches in Veracruz, San Luis Potosi and Tamaulipas Coastal communities are enacting emergency preparations to mitigate the risk of flash flooding and dangerous mudslides in steep terrain
  • Barry is forecast to weaken rapidly over the mountains of central Mexico by early next week, limiting its impact inland
  • Meanwhile, meteorologists are tracking a separate low-pressure area off Florida with potential for development near the southeastern U.S. coast
