Overview
- Tropical Depression 22‑E formed in the eastern Pacific on Wednesday and was about 825 km south of Acapulco and 1,185 km south‑southeast of Manzanillo with 55 km/h sustained winds and gusts to 75 km/h, moving west at 11 km/h, Conagua reported.
- The Servicio Meteorológico Nacional projects the system will reach Category 1 by about 18:00 on Thursday, October 22, and could later intensify to a Category 3 hurricane that would be named Vance.
- Conagua says the storm currently does not affect Mexican territory because of its distance, but federal agencies and the Guerrero state government have increased monitoring and issued public guidance.
- Maritime operators and coastal authorities are being warned to prepare for rough seas and heavy surf, and forecasters note that a change in track or faster intensification could bring rain, gusty winds and coastal impacts within 24 to 72 hours.
- The eastern Pacific often sees rapid strengthening in late summer and autumn, so officials urge residents and ships to follow updates from Conagua, the SMN and Protección Civil for any shifts in the storm’s intensity or path.
