Troisdorf Waste-Site Blaze Brought Under Control After Nightlong Fight

Smoke alerts continued, RSAG paused collections, police opened an investigation.

Overview

  • Fire broke out shortly after midnight in an RSAG hall storing bulky waste in Troisdorf, engulfing roughly 3,600 square meters and about 200 tonnes of material.
  • Up to 200 firefighters responded and supplemented insufficient mains supply by pumping water from the River Sieg, attacking the fire via two aerial ladders and ten hose lines.
  • Authorities issued NINA warnings to multiple towns, urging residents to keep windows closed and turn off ventilation as smoke drifted toward the Cologne/Bonn area; early checks found no air anomalies.
  • By around midday, crews reported the blaze under control with spread halted, no injuries, and heavy equipment removing burning waste after a wall was opened to reach and douse hotspots.
  • RSAG said right-Rhine waste collection was suspended and the Troisdorf recycling center closed to customers, and investigators noted it is the second major fire at the site since August 3.
