Tripura’s Largest Single-Day Ganja Eradication Destroys 19 Lakh Plants in Sepahijala
Police used drones with a 600-strong joint force to clear plantations hidden across 650 acres of forest.
Overview
- Officials valued the destroyed crop at about Rs 100 crore after a day-long operation on January 4 across North and South Kalamchoura, Anandapur and Ghatigarh.
- Tripura Police coordinated with BSF, Tripura State Rifles, and forest and excise teams, using aerial reconnaissance to locate plots in dense terrain.
- The drive targeted illicit cultivation on forest land that police say feeds smuggling networks sending processed ganja to Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
- Earlier raids on January 2 and 3 removed more than 7.16 lakh plants, including about seven lakh at Anandapur–Ghatigarh worth roughly Rs 32.5 crore.
- Police reported no arrests so far in the Sepahijala operations and said the anti-cannabis campaign will continue.
