Tripura Lays Foundation Stone for Replica 51-Shakti Peethas Park at Banduar
Backed by Union Tourism Ministry funding alongside Asian Development Bank support, the initiative is due for completion in 18 months.
Overview
- On July 13, Chief Minister Manik Saha inaugurated the ₹98 crore project to build a 15-acre park replicating all 51 Shakti Peethas in Gomati district’s Banduar village.
- The complex will feature an interpretation centre, cottages, a cafeteria, a sky bridge and the world’s largest Nataraja statue, with capacity for 7,000 pilgrims at a time.
- Financing is secured under the PRASHAD scheme from the Union Tourism Ministry with co-financing from the Asian Development Bank as part of a broader ₹350 crore tourism infrastructure drive.
- The state government aims to finish construction within the next 18 months and plans to invite Prime Minister Narendra Modi to consecrate the site upon completion.
- Officials are also proposing seaplane connectivity to Dumboor Lake and will deploy over 6,000 special executives alongside a dedicated tourist police unit to bolster visitor services and security.
