Tripura District Imposes Night Curfew on Bangladesh Border After BSF Alerts

Authorities acted on BSF warnings of suspected PCJSS–UPDF movement near the Labokant Para–Chaplin Chera stretch.

Overview

  • The Gomati district magistrate invoked Section 163 of the BNSS to enforce a 6 p.m.–6 a.m. curfew in parts of Karbook subdivision through February 28, 2026.
  • The order covers the corridor from Labokant Para border outpost to Chaplin Chera border outpost, with residents within 300 meters of the border excluded from certain limits.
  • Assemblies of more than four people during curfew hours require permission, public movement without written authority is barred, and civilians are prohibited from carrying weapons.
  • BSF inputs cited apprehensions of movement by PCJSS and UPDF cadres as well as potential infiltration by Bangladeshi nationals, Rohingyas, and militant operatives for criminal activity and smuggling.
  • Tripura’s 856-km border with Bangladesh, including areas adjoining the Chittagong Hill Tracts, remains vulnerable, and police detained 13 PCJSS members who crossed over injured in June 2025.
