Overview

• On July 11, the Governor of Tripura, acting on Chief Minister Manik Saha’s advice, formally allotted the Panchayat, Higher Education and General Administration (Political) departments to Kishor Barman
• With Barman’s induction and portfolio assignment, the Manik Saha government now has its full complement of 11 ministers and a minister of state
• A first-time MLA from Nalchar constituency and state BJP general secretary, Barman was sworn in on July 3, exemplifying the party’s practice of elevating organizational leaders into key governance roles
• At 45, the former ABVP leader joined Tripura politics in 2018 after working in West Bengal and campaigned on improving rural welfare and higher education
• Barman has indicated plans to advance gram panchayat development and implement new initiatives in higher education under his expanded mandate
