Tripura, AIIMS Delhi Sign MoU to Turn AGMC and GBP Hospital Into a Medical Hub

The pact follows a New Delhi pitch for central funds, regulatory approvals, a PPP medical college at Kulai.

Overview

  • Tripura signed an MoU with AIIMS Delhi to guide upgrades that aim to make AGMC and GBP Hospital a centre for super-speciality care.
  • Chief Minister Manik Saha attended the signing in New Delhi with AIIMS Director M. Srinivas and senior state health officials.
  • A day earlier, Saha met Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda seeking support for a PPP medical college at Kulai in Dhalai district, a tertiary ophthalmology hospital in Agartala, and an immunology lab at AGMC/GBP Hospital.
  • The state also requested funds to procure advanced equipment for AGMC’s super-speciality block and additional AB PMJAY allocations to clear pending claims.
  • Tripura has three medical colleges, and the NMC has permitted 150 MBBS seats at AGMC for 2025–26 (118 for state students, 22 central nominees, 10 for the Northeast), with about 525 MBBS students enrolled across years.
